With the potentially long list of spices and the various cooking methods, anyone new to Indian cooking could somewhat feel intimidated. Trust me, when I say that cooking Indian food at home is way easier than you realise. Most of the spices and herbs you must have already heard of and may even already have them in your pantry. Except a few, many cooking techniques are quite similar to that of western cooking.
Some ingredients and cooking methods are standard to Indian cooking. Like tempering of spices, along with onion and tomato is a method you will find in most dishes.
I have created three headings, dividing the pantry items for ease of reference – listing them under Spices & Herbs, Dry Goods, and Dairy.
